In 1996 the Port of Los Angeles constructed the paving for the 240 acre American President Lines terminal at Pier 300 in the Port of Los Angeles. The pavement in the grounded container yard was to be designed to enable maximum operational flexibility, so that the rubber tire gantries and other equipment could operate in various stacking arrangements. Nigel Nixon and Partners, Inc. were appointed by the Port, through DMJM, to undertake the design and specification of the pavements. In particular, this work was to accommodate the terminal operator’s special requirements, which were significantly more onerous than on other terminals within the Port.
