Nigel Nixon and Partners, Inc. were commissioned to develop the paving system for the pedestrian and vehicular areas of Frank Ogawa Plaza at the City of Oakland’s City Administration Building. The paving comprises various sizes of precast concrete slabs and pavers set on a sand bed. The substrate is geogrid reinforced aggregate base on grade. Our scope of work was to develop the paving system and advise our client, Y. H. Lee Associates, on suitable details and materials. We also undertook selection of suitable manufacturers and the preparation of a performance specification for the design and build contract. Site observation services were also provided during construction. Project status – complete.
