Irish Rail are planning to develop new railhead container handling yards at their East Wall Site; conceptual planning for a five-track rail-siding was provided, with R+D operations on one side; provision was made for direct handling from the railhead to road transport for remote stacking/immediate delivery. In order to maximize throughput, a secondary adjacent stacking area was proposed on the other side of the railhead, to allow for minimized gantry crane travel by back-loading simultaneously, thus minimizing delays to liner trains. The system employed was to provide for double-cantilever rail-mounted gantries (2 off), to permit five railtrack main span and sufficient out-reach cantilevers on each side to service road deliver/receiving and stacking both in and out. Equipment specifications and costings were evaluated and await inception.
