The Port Authority of Jamaica constructed a new container terminal at the Port of Kingston in 1995. The pavements needed to be suitable to accommodate the settlement anticipated, while using locally available materials, such as marl and limestone, where possible for economy. A durable pavement suitable for straddle carrier traffic was required. Nigel Nixon and Partners, Inc. were appointed through SAMADA Consultants to undertake the design of the pavement and drainage for the terminal. This included the production of drawings and specifications, and undertaking a life cycle cost analysis.
